Contractor SEO for plumbers, electricians, landscapers and other trades.

People search for a tradesperson when something is broken or a job has to be done, and they usually call one of the first businesses they see on the map. Contractor SEO puts your business there: a service page for each job, a Google Business Profile that matches how you really work, and reviews that earn the call.

What holds trades businesses back in search

  • One 'Services' page covers roofing, repairs, replacements and emergencies together.
  • The Google Business Profile has the wrong categories, or a service area that does not match where you work.
  • Competitors have many more reviews, or recent reviews yours lack.
  • The website is slow on a phone, and the phone number is hard to tap.
  • Lead sites and directories take the clicks for most 'near me' searches.

How we work with trades businesses

  1. 01

    Find the jobs worth winning

We look at which jobs earn you the most and the searches people use for them: emergency, repair, replacement, installation, by place and by season.

  2. 02

A page for every core service

One page per job type, written for the customer: what you do, when to call, what it involves, typical timeframes and the areas you cover. Pricing is described only if you give it to us.

  3. 03

Google Business Profile and service areas

Correct categories and services, a service area that matches where you really work, photos of real jobs, and consistent details across listings.

  4. 04

    Reviews

A simple way to ask every customer after a job, and a reply to every review. We never write or buy reviews.

  5. 05

A site that converts a phone visit

Tap-to-call, short enquiry forms, fast loading and clear service-area information.

  6. 06

    Reporting

Calls, form submissions and direction requests by service, not just rankings.

Local searches for trades are competitive, and lead-generation sites and paid ads sit above the organic results. SEO is a long-term channel, and we will not promise rankings or a number of jobs. It works best alongside a good profile and strong reviews.

What the search data shows

In October 2026, Semrush estimated these monthly searches in the United States for businesses looking for SEO help: roofing seo about 4,400, hvac seo about 3,600, contractor seo about 3,600, electrician seo about 2,900, plumber seo about 2,400, landscaping seo about 1,900, pest control seo about 1,600 and home service seo about 1,600. Estimated difficulty for roofing, contractor and electrician terms is comparatively low (about 22 to 23 on Semrush's 0 to 100 scale). In Australia, tradie seo is about 880 a month and plumber seo about 590; in Canada, roofing and contractor seo are about 320 each. These are third-party estimates and are directional only. They show that trades businesses are actively looking for help with how customers find them.

Customers tend to search in one of three ways. An urgent job produces searches such as a plumber near me or an emergency repair, and the map results decide who gets the call. A planned job, such as a roof replacement or a new HVAC system, produces more research and comparison, and the website and reviews decide who gets the quote request. A question, such as how long a repair should take, is where helpful pages and AI answers introduce your business. Each needs a different page.

Service pages for each job

  • Roofing and HVAC are large enough to need their own plans: see roofing SEO and HVAC SEO.
  • Plumbing: leaks, blocked drains, hot water systems, bathroom and kitchen work, emergency callouts.
  • Electrical: faults, switchboard and panel upgrades, lighting, EV chargers, safety inspections.
  • Other trades: landscaping, pest control, cleaning, building and renovation, each with its own pages.

Each page should explain the job, when to call, what it involves and the areas you cover, with photos of your own work. Licensing and insurance details belong on the page only where you can state them accurately.

Google Business Profile for businesses that travel to customers

Most trades businesses go to the customer, with no shop front. Google's guidelines for representing your business explain how service-area businesses should set up a profile, including hiding the address when customers do not visit. Pick categories that match your main jobs, list your services, and keep the service area honest. Google also says local results are based on relevance, distance and prominence in its guide to improving your local ranking.

Reviews that win the call

Customers compare review counts and recency before they call. Ask every customer in the same way after a job, and reply to every review. Google's policy on fake engagement does not allow paid or incentivised reviews, or asking only happy customers.

Service-area pages

Pages for towns or suburbs help only when they carry real information: jobs you have done there, who covers it and local conditions that affect the work. Pages that repeat the same text with a different place name are the doorway pages Google's spam policies warn about, and we advise against them. See our local SEO checklist.

A website that works on a phone

Most urgent searches come from a phone. The site should load quickly, show the phone number as a tap-to-call button and make an enquiry form short. Our web design and development service builds sites for that, and our SEO service keeps them found.

Home services and trades: common questions

What is contractor SEO?

Contractor SEO helps a trades or home service business appear when local customers search for a job. It covers service pages, the Google Business Profile, reviews and the speed and usability of the website.

Do you work with roofers and HVAC companies?

Yes, and each has its own page with its own plan: see roofing SEO and HVAC SEO. This page covers plumbers, electricians and other trades.

How long does it take to get calls from SEO?

Profile and site fixes can help within weeks, but competitive local rankings usually take months. We report on calls and forms so you can see movement earlier.

Should I do SEO or run ads?

Ads can produce calls faster and stop when you stop paying. SEO builds slower and lasts. Many trades businesses use both, and we can advise on the balance.

Do I need a page for every suburb I cover?

Only where you can add something real. Duplicated suburb pages do not help customers and risk being treated as low-quality pages.

I work from home or a van. Can I still have a Google Business Profile?

Usually yes, as a service-area business, as long as you meet Google's guidelines and hide the address if customers do not visit.

Do you write reviews for us?

No. We help you ask every customer the same way and reply to every review, and we never write or buy reviews.

Do you have case studies for trades?

Not yet. We do not publish results for any sector until a client gives permission and we hold the evidence to support them.
